Getting to the Kona Coast and Kealakekua

Kealakekua is on the West coast of the big island of Hawaii. Most domestic and international carriers have flights to the Hawaiian Islands. There are direct flights into Kona from major West Coast cities, however, there are also connecting flights through Oahu which then continue on to Kona International Airport at Keahole. From there it is 24 miles to the Kealakekua Hale Vacation Home. If there is no traffic, this trip will take about 45 minutes. If you are flying into Hilo, you should plan on it taking about 2 1/2 – 3 hrs. to cover the 114 miles to reach the town of Captain Cook or Kealakekua Bay. Rental cars are available at both Kona and Hilo International airports, as are taxis and limousines.

One note about rental cars; most companies do not insure vehicles for use on the Saddle Road (highway 200/220) even if they are equipped with 4-wheel drive.
