Kealakekua and Captain Cook Area Shopping & Businesses
|
|
The village of Kealakekua is typical of so many of the small towns that dot the west
coast of the big island of Hawaii. A single stoplight punctuates Mamalahoa Highway
/ State Route 11 as it passes through Kealakekua, the same can be said for the neighboring
town of Captain Cook. Numerous business line either side of the road and service
the 1645 local residents as well as the travelers the come to dive and paddle in
Kealakekua Bay.
If you did not spend any time here you would not realize that there are over 300
merchants in the village just 10 miles North of this Kona Coast hamlet. We have
our own favorites, but our guests continue to identify their own, including organic
farmers and coffee growers pursuing sustainable agriculture. One thing we are sure
of is that no matter how long your stay, you will not go wanting for friendly shop
keepers, good food, or even a Kona Donut.
